About

In 1911 a community effort began to build the breakwater at Pillar Point Harbor. The breakwater was completed in 1961 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Over the years the outer breakwater has caused scouring and loss of beach at our popular public beach and surfing spot we call Surfer's Beach. The Breakwater obstructs the natural littoral flow of sediment to the beach, hence the erosion.
